Clerkships at Williams + Hughes

The focus of our clerkship program is on giving you an idea of what life as a lawyer at Williams + Hughes is like.  That’s why you will work closely with our team on real litigious and non-litigious matters from the first day of your clerkship.  A dedicated buddy and supervisor will make sure you have the opportunity to attend court hearings, client meetings and conferences with counsel from day one.

You will also work on a wide range of tasks, including conducting legal research, drafting advice and assisting with the preparation of pleadings, contracts and client documents.  Often, you will work directly with our Principals on matters.

You will be invited to attend lunches and events with our team throughout your time at the firm.  Many of our Principals and Senior Lawyers have been with the firm since they themselves were Law Graduates or Junior Lawyers, so our collegiate atmosphere is an important part of who we are.

Our two-week clerkships coincide with the summer and winter University breaks.  We often invite impressive clerks to continue working with us on an ongoing basis.

How to apply

Please submit your CV, a one-page cover letter, and a copy of your most recent academic transcript via email to careers@whlaw.com.au.  Your cover letter is an opportunity for us to get to know you and learn why you would like to work at Williams + Hughes.

Successful candidates will be invited to attend an interview with senior members of our team in late August or early September 2024.  After your interview, you will be invited to have a coffee with one of our Law Graduates or Junior Lawyers.  This is an opportunity for you to learn more about Williams + Hughes’ culture and the type of work that we do.
